Printed Circuit Board Assembly is the process of soldering and attaching electronic components to the empty (unassembled) raw PCB by using specific assembly processes. There are 2 different kinds of assembly: SMT-Assembly (surface mounted technology) and THT assembly (Through Hole Technology). Stencil printing uses a stencil printing plate to apply the solder mask in a silkscreen process. This way the soldering can be apply very precisely. Afterwards the electronic components are attached to the PCB.

While SMT-Assembly is usually fully automated and suitable for small elements like resistances or condensators, THT-Assembly is partially manually executed. THT is usually used for soldered elements like PCB connectores, Cable assemblies and plugs.
In a final process the components are welded to the PCB using reflow-welding, vapor-phase welding or wave soldering.

The assembly is complete after a function test, visual inspection and several other inspections.
